Epping residents are being asked to take time out to make their environment tidier this weekend.
Clean Up Australia Day is an annual nationwide event which this year takes place on Sunday March 3rd. Last year, around 600,000 people took part in the event in which volunteers clean a local outdoor space such as a park or a river. More than 16,000 tonnes of rubbish and recycling was cleared from thousands of sites around the country.
Anyone can register a clean-up site, but Epping volunteers might prefer to join one of the three sites already registered and listed on the City of Whittlesea Council’s website.
The registered clean-ups are at VR Michael Reserve between 9am and 11am, Darebin Creek at Narina Park between 9am and 10am and Aurora between 10am and midday. Residents can look out for poster printing being used to advertise the location of each site. Flyer printing is another good way for organisers to promote the clean-up to local residents. Clean-ups will also be taking place throughout the Whittlesea area.
All people need to do is turn up at the right time and sign in with the site co-ordinator. Volunteers are encouraged to wear covered shoes and old clothes as well as bringing gloves and a drink. If it is a sunny day, attendees should remember to be sun smart with a hat, sunscreen, and sunglasses. Children are welcome, but should be supervised. Organisers will be providing light refreshments for all volunteers at the end of each clean-up.
For more details of the initial meeting places for each site, check the City of Whittlesea council website.
