Bread makers required for skills demonstration

Keen bakers from Whittlesea are being invited to share their skills with the city's residents as part of this year’s Well Bread Festival.

The festival, which celebrates bread from different cultures, was held for the first time last year and its success has prompted the council to hold it again.

The council is currently looking for people who would like to take part in the festival and share their stories and is promoting two ways to get involved.

Exhibitors will host an informal table and talk about the bread they bake. This is a great opportunity for people who would like to share their culture but are worried about speaking in front of large numbers of people. Exhibitors will be asked to make samples of their chosen bread for festival-goers to taste.

For people who are feeling more confident, there is the option to be a presenter and give short talks to larger groups about bread and what part it plays in their culture.

Presenters can talk about cultural celebrations, the nutritional aspects of the bread or even give a step-by-step demonstration of how to make it.

The council will help participants by providing ingredients, translation services if needed and display equipment. Printing services could help provide Posters, leaflets or other printed material to help people learn more about each type of bread.

The festival itself will take place on Sunday August 18th at Greenbrook Community Centre House in Epping. To get involved, contact the council’s Community Cultural Development team.
