Youth work experience to be filmed for virtual reality game
Inspiring young people into pursuing a career within the disability sector will be the aim of a virtual reality game being created by an organisation in Broadmeadows.
The 20Squared programme is designed to utilize a 360-degree video, complete with interactive features, to provide youth with a ‘virtual experience’ in performing the role of a disability carer.
The innovative project is being introduced by Workforce Plus Inc, together with the Jesuit Community College and is part of a Federal Government programme designated to run over a period of five months in Colac and Broadmeadows.
According to 20Squared project manager Simon Scrase, the programme is set to deliver a number of benefits. He said it will help young people build practical skills and knowledge in community and disability services, as well as assist in the making of the new virtual reality game.
The Empowering Youth Initiatives target the 15 to 24 age group, who are at risk of being long-term unemployed (more than 12 months). Scrase said the 20Squared project, which has been advertised via a number of marketing services, is specifically targeting early school leavers and is being put into place to provide them with the confidence to engage with jobs through playing the new game of 20Squared prior to experiencing real work experience.
The experiences of young people during vocational placements will be taped for used in the forthcoming virtual reality game, according to film director Ben McEwing, of Carben Creative.
