Yarra City Council rolls out economic package
Clifton Hill and other suburbs within the Yarra City shire are set to benefit from a $7.46 million financial package devised by the council in an effort to assist their local community and businesses during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Community and Economic Support Package hopes to provide immediate financial assistance to residents and businesses as well as to ensure that their sporting, cultural and creative communities survive.
The package allows greater flexibility regarding residential and commercial rates for those experiencing financial hardship with certain licences and fees being refunded to businesses to take the pressure off. An online directory aims to promote local businesses and services with a recovery fund, ensuring that the most affected retail precincts are supported.
Creative organisations, artists and musicians are able to apply for a grant to enable them to adapt and develop their work during these challenging times.
The Emergency Community Support Fund will provide assistance to struggling households that don’t meet the criteria for government support. This includes food vouchers and the expansion of existing meal delivery services.
Councils utilise graphic design to convey relevant information to residents via their websites. The Yarra City mayor, Misha Coleman, thanked the community for their patience and strength and promised to keep them informed and updated. Further information regarding this package can be found on the Yarra City Council’s website.
