As part of the Nature Connection in Yarra, Mappa Outdoor is hosting walks in the Abbotsford area to educate local people about the biodiversity of the area.
An ecologist will lead the hike, taking in the Yarra Bend Park to highlight the incredible biodiversity that thrives even very close to the city.
Participants will learn to identify native species of plants common to the area and will also be educated on how introduced and invasive species can impact on the local ecosystem, vying for attention with native plants.
There will also be information about local conservation and how this effort positively affects the environment.
Mappa Outdoor is a community-based collective that exists to educate interested citizens, combining this with a love of nature and the outdoors. The aim is to foster an interest in the environment whilst simultaneously bringing about connection within the community.
Brochure printing is often the means by which events of neighbourhood interest might be advertised.
The Plant Identification Walks are taking place on Saturday 7th February, from 8.30am until 10am and then again from 11am until 12.30pm. The venue is the F.A. Andrews Reserve Playground, 2 Yarra Bank Court, Abbotsford, VIC 3067. The event is free, but it is necessary to reserve a spot. Attendees should wear clothes and shoes suitable for walking and bring a water bottle.
