What's Happening in Abbotsford, VIC…

The country comes to town at the Melbourne Showgrounds

The Royal Melbourne Show takes place later this month, with 11 days of animal shows, cooking demonstrations and musical entertainment.

The show, which is organised by the Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria, is one of the area’s biggest events and typically attracts at least half a million visitors.

First held in 1848, the event started in Moonee Ponds as a ploughing contest. Now, it is one of Victoria’s premier events and includes live music, dog shows, and equestrian competitions. Each night ends with a spectacular fireworks display.

Younger visitors will enjoy the petting area, where small animals such as calves and rabbits can be held and petted, while those who are more serious about their animal breeding will enjoy the competitions involving cattle, sheep, and alpacas. Catalogue printing will give visitors all the details they need to know about each competition and the competitors vying for the titles of best in show.

For visitors who want to experience the thrill of the fair, there are several rides, including one that travels at 100km/h, along with a range of rides designed for families.

Abbotsford residents can take advantage of a special Entry and Travel ticket that provides admission to the show and access to public transport to and from the event, offering an easy way to spend the day.

This year, the show takes place from Saturday, September 22 to Tuesday, October 2 at the Melbourne Showgrounds. For more information, or to book tickets, visit the Royal Melbourne Show website.
