Studio space on offer to creative industry members

Artists from Abbotsford and across Yarra City are being invited to submit an application for studio space at a subsidised rate at Collingwood Yards.

As part of the council's programme entitled Room to Create, which is being undertaken in conjunction with the Lord Mayors Charitable Foundation, the opportunity to secure subsidised space for a period of 18 months is aimed at assisting groups and artists in creative industries such as digital media, performances, visual arts and music. The successful candidates will join many independent arts groups and artists already based at Collingwood Yards.

According to a council spokesperson, the programme is now in its second term and set to continue to provide six subsidised fixed-term leases on studios at the venue. He added:

“We are seeking an Expression of Interest from visual artists who will utilise this opportunity to develop their practice in affordable studio space, available from 3 Jan 2022.”

Whether creating artwork for use on Promotional Products or seeking a space to rehearse for a performance, studios like this have much to offer artists.

Each of the 13sqm studios are located within a partitioned, light-filled space on the building's top floor. The building in Perry Street is one of three on the 6,500sqm site, which also features a leafy courtyard as a central focus.

Applications to take up the creative spaces on offer must be submitted by 19 October. Further information is available on the council website.
