Steps to boost local business and performers

Performers in Abbotsford and across Yarra City are set to benefit from new initiatives aimed at creating more opportunities for the entertainment industry and businesses in the local area.

Yarra City Council has teamed up with the State Government to carry out the initiatives, which will also see Brunswick Street come alive with a series of outdoor pop-up music events.

Mayor of Yarra Gabrielle de Vietri said the series would run for several months and provide emerging and local artists with an opportunity to put their talents on show, while at the same time creating a vibrant and rich atmosphere for visitors and locals.

She said it not only supports local artists, musicians and businesses, but the initiative also embraces the essence of Yarra, which is known as a lively and unique precinct of Melbourne. She added:

“We have the best arts and entertainment in the world on our doorstep and as restrictions ease and we begin to re-open, we will be supporting local business and our arts community to ensure they have the opportunity to rebound and thrive this summer.”

Poster printing campaigns to promote artists and events have been common throughout the city for many years.

The mayor said the new package will also include other measures, such as a digital campaign to support Nicholson Village businesses, a special culture and arts event targeting young people early next year, and a new entertainment and music event to be held in Swan Street, Richmond in 2022.
