Soulful expression to delight Abbotsford

Singers with a flair for yoga in the Abbotsford area may be interested in a soulful Kirtan event this October.

Kirtan is a technique used in Bhakti yoga, where the practice becomes enhanced by music and singing. Kirtan became popular in medieval times, beginning centuries previously with the poet saints of Southern India, from where it gradually grew popular over the rest of the country. Kirtan involves devotees chanting together, often using a call-and-response technique, and is easy for all to follow. Guests do not have to be a natural singer to enjoy this practise, as it an act of spirituality that encourages togetherness, so it can therefore be embraced by all.

At the Open Space event, chai and a vegan meal are available for refreshment. Most attendees will be seated on the floor using cushions provided, although there will be some chairs available. Local printing services may be used to provide literature on the day regarding further Kirtan events. Donations go to the Sansar Gyaan Pathshala School in rural northern India, where free education is available to over 300 students.

Open Heart Kirtan takes place at The Open Space, 11 Acacia Place, Abbotsford VIC 3067 on Saturday 7th October, running from 6pm until 8.30pm. Tickets are free of charge, but a donation would be welcome. Registration is necessary.
