Series of gigs herald new music festival
Music lovers in Abbotsford have plenty of shows to choose from at the moment, with a brand new music festival running until Sunday June 21st.
The Leaps and Bounds Festival sees performances and events staged at venues across the City of Yarra. The festival is designed to promote live performance and the local music scene and has been organised by promoters, venue owners and music writers from around the area.
The Yarra Hotel in Abbotsford hosted one of the festival’s opening events with a packed line up, including the hotel’s manager and singer-songwriter Mick Thomas.
The full schedule can be found on the festival’s website, but it will pay to look out for poster printing around Yarra for the latest information promoting the festival and individual gigs.
On Friday July 19th, a concert will honour council employee Sally Isaac, who worked to help disadvantaged people in Yarra before she passed away several years ago. The gig will be held at her favourite North Fitzroy venue, The Empress Hotel, and money raised is to be passed on to the Sally Isaac Memorial Scholarship Fund. The fund helps young women in the area who contribute to their community to further their education.
On Thursday July 11th, the Yarra Young Ambassadors will be staging an all-ages show with local rap group Polo Club. On Saturday July 20th, a free street party will be held in Collingwood to introduce people to Aboriginal singer-songwriters.
