A Queensland woman has finally achieved her dream of becoming an author.
Helen was inspired to write a book after watching a television show broadcast from Abbotsford where her mother had lived as a child. The programme sparked memories of a family secret and Helen decided to ask her family members more about it.
After spending four years of in-depth research and speaking to her relatives, Helen realised she had gathered enough information to write a book which charted the fortunes of her family over the years.
Four years later she had finally finished the book, but found publishers were reluctant to take her project on. All the publishers she sent the manuscript to turned it down because she was not a well-known author, and her story was felt to be of only limited interest because it concerned only her family.
Although these early rejections fro publishing houses left Helen initially discouraged, she decided to persevere with her project and instead asked a Melbourne Print company to Print her book for her.
She chose a local Print company because most of her book was based in and around Abbotsford and north east Victoria. They helped Print and bind her book and recommended a local book designer to assist with the project.
Finding a publisher can be hard work, but any budding author who is committed to seeing through their project may wish to consider sel-publishing with the help of a local Print shop.
