Clifton Hill residents have an extra few weeks to make their views known on proposed changes to a local park.
The Yarra City Council signalled its intentions for Darling Gardens some time ago and engaged in public consultation last year over its ‘Draft Masterplan’ for the area.
After that consultation, the council released a revised draft which included a number of new amenities as part of an upgrade costing in the region of $1.3million.
Among the improvements, the council has suggested adding a running track around the perimeter of the park and three outdoor exercise areas, as well as adding play areas. Some residents however, have expressed reservations about the ideas saying it could detract from the current peaceful atmosphere in the area.
At a meeting earlier this month at which some residents spoke, councillors decided to allow further time for the public to give their views given there was some concern in the local community about the plans.
Both the council and residents campaigning against the change could use printing services to tell those in the area about the planned changes and express their views.
Darling Gardens has been part of the Clifton Hill area since 1866 and two of the trees are listed on the National Trust of Australia significant tree register.
Residents can comment on the plans until Monday August 31. More details can be found on the Yarra City Council website.
