Prizes on offer for young artists in Yarra
Young artists in Abbotsford are being encouraged to produce special pieces to highlight the importance of looking after the environment.
A new competition called the uneARThed Environmental Art Prize has been launched by the Yarra Youth Ambassadors programme and is designed to help raise awareness of environmental issues.
The theme for the competition is ‘even little things make a big difference’, and entries must reflect the sentiment. Entries can be photographs, visual art, illustrations, or even wearable art pieces. A panel of young people, professional artists, and environmental leaders will judge the work based on technical merit and relevance to the theme.
Winners will receive prizes likely to include art materials, studio tours, and mentoring sessions with established artists. The finalists’ pieces will also be displayed at a special exhibition to celebrate World Environment Day in June, and may also be exhibited at the City’s Sustainability Awards.
Initial entries must be submitted electronically, showing what the finished piece will look like and including details of materials and size. However, to create the best finished work, artists might like to enlist the help of a professional print company, particularly if they are submitting photographs.
The competition is open to anyone between the ages of 15 and 25 who lives, works or studies in the city, and entries close on Monday 5th May. For more details, visit the City of Yarra council website.
