Popular Abbotsford music venue to be expanded
Music lovers in Yarra will have more choice for live bands and singers in the future, with the announcement of a new permanent venue in the area.
The Shadow Electric Band Room has been operating from Abbotsford Convent on a temporary basis for the past two years, but has now found a long-term home there.
Combining the historic Convent setting with a modern industrial style interior and a large bar, the Band Room has rapidly become a favourite among Melbourne residents as a place to go for live music and a good night out.
Since opening in 2012, the founders have hosted more than 300 events and have bought both local and international acts to the city.
They are also behind the popular outdoor cinema that shows classic films throughout the warmer months. Film screenings will also be held this year, taking place five nights a week once winter is over.
The music venue will start by opening four nights a week and is likely to attract some of the city’s best DJs and bands. Poster printing will no doubt be used to advertise each upcoming act, and the films on show at the cinema.
