Partner dancing to be revived in Abbotsford

Dance fans in the Abbotsford area may be keen to dust off their shoes and hot foot it along to the Platform Studio in June and July where they can bust a few moves and learn a few new ones! Local interest groups often utilise community printing services in order to advertise within the locale.

West Coast Swing is danced with a partner to all sorts of music such as R&B, funk and blues. From the end of June through July, novices and those with experience can start with basics like West Coast Swing and then graduate to more advanced moves. The beginners’ course will ensure that the participants can dance socially to various genres of music as well as offering a friendly community of like-minded people.

West Coast Swing has its roots in the Lindy Hop. There are basic figures or patterns to be learnt in this evolving social dance – modern swing today is informed by an emphasis on connection and musicality. Partners do not mirror each other – in essence, the leader creates momentum in order to show how they wish to lead. West Coast Swing is danced globally.

West Coast Swing Melbourne takes place on Monday nights, from 26th June until 17th July. The venue is the Platform Studio, 219 Johnston Street, Abbotsford, VIC 3067. Tickets start at $20. No experience is necessary, and it is fine to turn up without a partner.
