Honouring those who contribute to make the local community a better place to visit, work and live, the awards recognise groups and individuals.
A City of Yarra Council spokesperson said it only takes about 10 minutes to nominate a worthy recipient, adding:
“Whether they’re loud and proud or quiet achievers, we want to celebrate them.”
Categories for this year's awards include Contributions to Arts, as well as for sport, heritage and diversity and inclusion, Community Initiative, Young Citizen (12-25 year olds) and Citizen of the Year (26 and over).
Nominees can come from all walks of life, ranging from volunteers to local businesses such as printing services, as long as their contributions have been on a voluntary basis or exceeded normal requirements of paid work.
Prize money of $500 is on offer for Community Initiative, Young Citizen and Citizen of the Year winners, while remaining category winners will receive $250.
Judging will be carried out by councillors who are members of the Community Awards Committee.
September 11 at 11.59pm is the deadline for both online and printed nominations. The announcement of winners will take place during a special awards presentation on 16 November at Collingwood Town Hall. Further information on the requirements of each of the categories is available on the Yarra City website or by phoning the council.
