The awards recognise a group or individual's outstanding contributions within the community, both quiet achievers and those who are highly visible in their efforts to help others.
There are eight categories in this year's awards, including Contributions to Diversity and Inclusion, Contributions to Heritage, Contributions to Sport, Contributions to Arts, Community Initiative of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, Citizen of the Year and Community Spirit, according to a council spokesman, who added:
"This year we’ve added a special category for Community Spirit, to recognise the individuals and groups who have supported community recovery and resilience during the COVID-19 pandemic."
Nominees will have an opportunity to win between $250 and $500, depending on the category.
Printing services have often been employed to ensure nomination Forms are available in a hard copy format, as well as online, for awards like this. For the Yarra Community Awards, hard-copy entries can be emailed or, alternatively, mailed to the City Council's Richmond address at 333 Bridge Road.
The entries, which must be received by 5pm on 12 September, will be judged by Community Awards Committee councillors.
The announcement of winners of the 2021 awards, which are open to all community members, will be made on 15 November at a special meeting of the council. Further information is available on the council's website.
