New festival to hit Melbourne this month
A brand new festival comes to Melbourne this month in the form of White Night Melbourne.
The White Night festival was originally conceived in Paris and takes place from dusk until dawn. This the first time such an event has been held in Australia and there will be more than 80 free events during the festival.
The festival is spread over 40 sites and locals will be on the lookout for poster printing to help find each site and discover what is being shown there. There will be more than 300 acts both large and small as well as food stalls.
The events include theatre productions, art exhibitions, film screenings and concerts with performers from Australia and around the world. Many of the city's art galleries, theatres, bars and restaurants are also opening late as part of the event.
The highlight of the festival will be a laser and light show held hourly on the Yarra River. The show will include a 40 metre high fountain and will see the Princes Bridge and nearby buildings picked out by colourful lasers.
Abbotsford residents thinking about making the short journey to central Melbourne might like to consider using public transport rather than driving. Buses and trains will be available and the Yarra Tram network will be running throughout the night to help people get around. There will be special parking rates for people who do wish to drive.
White Night runs from 7pm to 7am on Saturday February 23rd. For more information visit the White Night website.
