Music festival set to showcase the best of local talent

Clifton Hill residents are on the doorstep of a major music event which will showcase 900 performers in 300 events between the City of Yarra and Melbourne.

Yarra City Council has commissioned the Leaps and Bounds Music Festival, which returns for the fourth year and brings with it an eclectic programme of performances, bus tours, workshops and special events.

A Council spokesman said the music extravaganza specifically showcases music outlets and venues across the city as well as some of the best home-grown talent available.

Poster printing erected during the festival will highlight more than 50 venues to host the individual performances. Each has been selected to suit a wide variety of musical tastes ranging from rock and jazz to hip hop, he said.

The venues are located in Clifton Hill, North Carlton, North Fitzroy, Abbotsford, Richmond, Collingwood and Fitzroy.

He added there would be something to meet all budgets including many free shows for patrons to enjoy.

Among the featured artists to perform at this year’s Leaps and Bounds Music Festival to be held from July 1 to 17 are The Rookies, Liam Linley, Daryl Braithwaite, the Mark Fitzgibbon Trio, Deborah Conway, the Collingwood Casanovas and the Louisa Rankin Quartet.

The spokesman said the festival’s name was inspired by a song by Paul Kelly called Leaps and Bounds and its aim is to showcase and support home grown talent.
