During the past five months, two of the most recently introduced charging stations have helped over 330 drivers boost their batteries some 1,500 times.
Fast charging and effective, the stations were made possible through joint funding from Evie Networks and Yarra Council. The renewable energy delivered at the stations takes only 10 minutes to give EV drivers a further 50km of driving distance.
The response to the new charging stations by visitors and residents has been strong, according to Yarra Mayor Sophie Wade, who added:
“Our partnership with Evie Networks means that we can make it easier and more convenient for people to charge their electric cars. It also brings us one step closer to achieving our target of net-zero emissions in the Yarra community by 2030.”
The charging stations represent a positive move by the council towards encouraging locals to invest in electric vehicles as their preferred mode of transport in the future, and it believes that providing the infrastructure can speed up the uptake of EVs, a topic which has been well advertised through educational brochure printing campaigns across Australia.
In addition to seeking to provide more EV charging stations across the city, the council would also like to see the entire bus fleet in Melbourne electrified.
