Lovers of Middle eastern music in the Abbotsford may be keen to buy tickets and sample the music of Alwan, a trio influenced by Turkish, Persian, Arabic and Sephardic sounds.
Alwan consists of vocalist and oud player Yuval Ashkar, Phil Carroll, who plays accordion, duduk and the ney flute, as well as percussionist Matt Stonehouse. Delighting at festivals and concerts around Australia for the past 15 years, the trio is known for stunning vocals, evocative instrumentals and resonant drum solos.
Ashkar learnt to play the oud with master Yaid Dalai before coming to Australia. Carroll learnt the ney in Turkey, where he was the leader of Yalla! for ten years. Stonehouse is practised in a variety of percussion and also makes his own drums.
The audience on the evening are promised a memorable listening experience, with an exciting blend of Middle Eastern and World music. Touring bands often make use of local Print shops to produce advertising material on their behalf.
