The very popular Peel Street Park projections began in April, but are due to finish in their current location near Clifton Hill soon.
The images of moving and still artworks are projected on a large brick wall in the park and are freely accessible to all the public. The public art projections begin every night after dark and feature powerful artworks by both interstate and local artists, including Leila Jeffreys, Destiny Deacon and Virginia Fraser, Tania Smith and James Henry.
Currently playing at the projections is Leila Jeffreys’ video display “Nature is not a place to visit. It is home.” The piece looks at the bonds between humans and how actions can impact and shape the dynamics of a flock, alongside the similarities with human bonds and relationships.
Former projections include Destiny Deacon and Virginia Fraser’s “Forced into Images” – a video artwork and a portrait of domestic life through the lives of two young children. Past projections also include James Henry’s video piece that tied together black and white images taken of the Collingwood local mob in 2019 and Tania Smith’s untitled work looking at anxiety, parenting and places in public space.
Artists will sometimes use printing services to advertise their artwork showcases, using Posters or Flyers.
The Peel Street Park projections are due to finish in early December. For more information and to see the former projections, visit the Yarra City Council’s Yarra City Arts website.
