STREAT co-founder and CEO Rebecca Scott will address commercial proprietors from the City of Yarra including Clifton Hill, Victoria at a special Business Networking Breakfast taking place next month.
The speaker will tell the story of what her social enterprise, which helps at-risk and disadvantaged youth obtain long-term employment within the hospitality industry, has achieved in just five years of operation.
Attendees at the regularly held networking event will be able to follow Scott’s business journey, which began in Melbourne with the setting up of two food carts and training classes for nine young trainees, to its current structure including a catering company, coffee roaster and five cafes.
The organisation has helped in excess of 400 young people since its establishment.
In total, more than a million customers have been served by those participating in STREAT’s programmes, which have no doubt been widely advertised via flyer printing throughout the community.
According to Scott, the organisation has also provided more than 37,500 hours of support and training opportunities.
She said the ultimate aim was to be assisting 250 youth annually by late 2016, and for programmes to be fully self-funded from the success of STREAT’s business operations.
Scott is an advocate for the important role she believes community groups, businesses, nonprofit organisations and governments play in reducing poverty.
The Business Network Breakfast will be held on October 28.
