Join the fun of Cultural Diversity Week

Residents in Abbotsford and across Yarra City are being invited to help celebrate Cultural Diversity Week.

An estimated 20% of the area's population are fluent in languages other than English with about 29% born overseas.

According to a Council spokesperson, it is this cultural diversity that makes the area so unique and vibrant, a fact that is seen in the many cultural and art events, nightlife, restaurants and multicultural festivals.

Council has arranged a series of events to help celebrate the event with the first, Bridges to Harmony, set to be held at Fitzroy's Condell Reserve from 4-8.30pm on 17 March. It will include market stalls, food, circus activities and live music.

Major local events such as this are often widely advertised via flyer printing campaigns.

There will also be a Harvest Festival from 1 pm until 5 pm on 18 March at Collingwood's Perry Park, where attendees can enjoy some of the world's great traditions, dances, music and food. Kid's activities will be included in all the fun. On 21 March, the Belgium Avenue Twilight Market will be held between 3.30 pm and 5.30 pm; the event will feature market stalls, music and multicultural food.

On 22 March, residents are being invited to attend the Princes Hill Harmony Day being held from midday to 2pm at the North Carlton Railway Neighbourhood House. RSVP is required by 13 March. Simply email community@railwayneighbourhoodhouse.org.au.
