Grants to safeguard Yarras creative sector on offer

The City of Yarra has put the focus on creative spaces as it announces its latest grants programme.

As part of the Room to Create Programme, Council is offering businesses and organisations in Yarra, Clifton Hill and throughout the City an opportunity to gain extra funding for use on goods and services that will help them to remain in Yarra.

According to a Council spokesman the area is often described as an ‘engine room’ when it comes to the arts due to the extensive number of arts organisations of all sizes that contribute to its creative footprint.

He said the city hosted more than 50 live performance venues, a further 60 artist-run spaces and galleries as well as numerous studios and creative hubs, with many promoted regularly on Postcards and Brochures.

The funding on offer is part of a total pool of $25,000 which is made available annually with applications being taken for standalone grants of up to $2,000 or matching grants capped at $5,000, with the latter matched by the applicant.

The spokesman said the funds could be used in a number of ways, including infrastructure works, the installation of sound absorbing materials and acoustic consultant fees.

He said applications, which will remain open until all allocated funds in the pool have been used, can be made online via the council website or by contacting its Arts and Culture Department.
