Grants target local sports clubs

The state government is urging sporting clubs in Clifton Hill and across Victoria to make applications for grants to help fund equipment upgrades, increase administration services, purchase uniforms and to boost training.

On offer is funding from the Sporting Club Grants Programme, which was introduced to ensure that sport is accessible to as many people as possible. It is also designed to encourage more local participation, stimulate the economies of local areas and boost sustainable recreation, volunteer and sport opportunities.

The latest round of grants for local clubs will provide a maximum of $5,000 for volunteers, officials and coaches training and $5,000 towards upgrading operational effectiveness. Grants also include $2,000 to cater for any barriers faced by Indigenous athletes in regard to taking part in active recreation and sport, and $1,000 for equipment and uniforms.

Activities and events of local sporting clubs are often advertised throughout the community via flyer printing and newsletters.

Tourism, Sport and Major Events Minister, Martin Pakula said it was important to assist local clubs at the basic level as they provide the foundation for a vibrant environment in sports throughout Victoria, and he added:

“Grants for uniforms and new equipment can provide an enormous lift for a club and its members, and that spreads through the community.”

He said that funding for club officials and training staff is also an investment that will reap many rewards in years to come.

In excess of 3,500 sporting clubs have benefitted from grants since its introduction in 2014.
