The festival, which has become a premier local music event each winter, is held annually to help support live music businesses, venues and artists.
There are many features of the event, including the Smith Street Dreaming Festival, which celebrates Yarra's Torres Strait Islander and Aboriginal arts scene, as well as the Winter Record Store Day.
A council spokesman said the closing date for submissions is May 17, and that each participating venue will be responsible for the programming of their own live music event, and will receive funding support from the council. He added:
"Venues will have the opportunity to pitch for $2000 in funding for events that shine a spotlight on diverse musical acts, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, LGBTIQ+, culturally diverse, people with a disability, female, or all-ages gigs."
The spokesman added that promotional support, such as radio announcements, digital promotions and poster printing for venues taking part, will also be forthcoming from the council.
According to the spokesman, the festival's main aim is to promote and celebrate Australian music and to encourage lovers of music to visit Yarra venues to experience live music first-hand during the cooler winter months.
As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the event was last year forced to go online, but it is now making a welcome return to real-life settings for 10 days from July 16.
