Feedback invited on Brunswick Street Oval upgrade

Abbotsford residents are among many within Yarra City set to benefit from an upgrade to Brunswick Street Oval facilities.

The upgrade proposal was first put to local residents, community groups and sporting clubs in 2019, and from feedback received, a concept plan was developed. However, the concept plan has since been altered, according to a Yarra City spokesperson, who added:

“We've had to make some changes to our plan to ensure the proposed upgrades to the historic grandstand meet heritage requirements.”

The council has now invited feedback on the proposed changes, which include the establishment of a sporting pavilion with amenities and club rooms, the addition of two tennis courts, tennis pavilion upgrades including new facilities and community rooms, public toilets, a Bocce Court and landscaped garden, and improved pedestrian access and safety. Minimal changes are planned for the grandstand, which is heritage-listed.

The spokesman said the council is also looking to commission a piece of artwork to be embedded within the landscape or architecture and is seeking suitable ideas.

Flyer printing campaigns have often been instigated to provide more in-depth information about projects such as this to interested community members, especially at pop-up information sessions, which are set to be held at the Oval on 23 April from 10.30am to midday and 27 April, 3pm to 4.30pm.

Input from the community is also invited via Your Say Yarra on the Council's website by 27 April, 2022.
