Fans of innovative art in the Abbotsford locality and beyond may be keen to visit the Abbotsford Convent in April to see and even take part in Archiving the Ephemeral.
Archiving the Ephemeral is a multi-faceted piece of art/performance, collated from work and put together by Leisa Shelton, a performance artist. The art showcases the need for greater recognition and visibility of emerging Australian experimental artists and is divided into five sections. These are ‘Archive’, ‘Mapping’, ‘Scribe’, ‘Addendum’ and ‘Performing the Archive’. Hopefully, as a result of the work, the audience will be invited to consider the larger role of the artist within society, with the means to begin a dialogue and consider future direction. As well as Shelton, the audience will be able to see work from and converse with Jill Orr and Stelarc.
Art events such as Archiving the Ephemeral often draw on local printing agencies in order to produce graphic design on advertising that can stir enthusiasm for a project amongst an artistic and questioning community. The event is supported by Creative Victoria, the City of Yarra and Abbotsford Convent.
Archiving the Ephemeral takes place at the Magdalen Laundry, Abbotsford Convent, 1 St Heliers Street, Abbotsford, 3067, from April 15-22, excluding Monday, April 17. The exhibition will be open from 10am until 4pm, and entrance is free.
