E-scooters added to city transport options
Abbotsford residents are among many throughout Yarra City who have the opportunity to travel around the area on an e-scooter, which are now available for hire.
Purpose-built to provide an additional means of travel in an eco-friendly, accessible and safe way, this popular mode of transport was launched on 1 February locally and across the cities of Port Phillip and Melbourne.
The roll out saw 1,500 e-scooters made available for commuters.
The trial will be delivered by Neuron Mobility and Lime and anyone wishing to take advantage of the new service can do so by downloading their individual apps.
Yarra Deputy Mayor Edward Crossland said the trial will help Council move forward with their efforts to achieve their 2040 goal of net-zero emissions, a topic that has been the subject of many flyer printing campaigns across the nation. He added:
Rules for e-scooter riders will be the same as those set down for bicycle riders, including the need to be mindful of pedestrians by slowing down, and to wear a helmet while riding.
Additional provision has been made by Geofencing technology to enforce ‘go slow’ and ‘no go’ zones which will see restricted speed limits in shared high-traffic areas. Allocated spaces for parking e-scooters are also available.
