Gabrielle de Vietri, Mayor of Yarra City Council, said the community can help create the new vision, which aims to achieve an even more vibrant, happier and healthier city in 2035. She added:
“We’re asking our community what needs to happen to make sure that Yarra’s the best it can be in 2035.”
De Vietri said the area will be facing many challenges in the future, such as a growing population and shifting climate, and the creation of a vision will help guide the council's planning through all the adversities.
Creating a plan for the future also presents an opportunity to challenge traditional ideas about the way people work, play and live.
Since early November, the council has already engaged with more than 600 visitors, businesses and residents who have contributed their ideas and comments in what has been described as a once-in-a-generation opportunity to make a mark on the city.
Poster printing campaigns often help locals identify where council has set up special booths and venues for face-to-face engagement.
In mid-2021, a panel of randomly selected residents will consider all community feedback received and will work to help create the ultimate community vision. Community members have until January 15, 2021 to submit their thoughts and comments.
