Community feedback helps create four-year plan

A new plan that will guide Yarra City Council's works programme in Abbotsford and throughout Yarra City until 2025 has been formerly adopted.

The Council Plan 2021-25 was the first to be developed in conjunction with the Local Government Act 2020. Its delivery comes after a process of extensive conversations and engagement, which all helped to create a vision for the community moving forward.

According to Mayor of Yarra Gabrielle de Vietri, the process of engagement kicked off in November 2020, when the council received feedback from more than 1,300 members of the community, including a deliberative panel of 55 people. It came to a conclusion in September 2021, when, after the creation of a draft Council Plan, members of the community were given an opportunity to provide further feedback.

Flyer printing campaigns have often helped to attract interest and participation of community members with issues that affect their local area.

In a statement, the mayor said she was proud to lead an initiative that stood to build a liveable, equitable and climate-safe Yarra for all members of the community, and she added:

“This plan outlines an exciting future for Yarra. We look forward to working with our community to ensure that our city continues to be a wonderful place to live, work, play and visit.”

The 2021-25 Plan refers to six major Strategic Objectives, including governance and democracy, movement and transport, nature and place, local economy, health and social equity, environment and climate.
