Chance for Clifton Hill businesses explore innovation
Business owners from Clifton Hill are being invited to find out more about how science and innovation can assist local industries this week.
The Northern Business Achievement Awards will be hosting Dr. Keith McLean, Director of Manufacturing at the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO), as its guest speaker for its March breakfast.
Dr. McLean will discuss the National Innovation and Science Agenda, which was launched at the end of 2015 and is designed to encourage innovation within industry.
As part of the new initiative, McLean, who has a Ph.D. in industrial microbiology and began working with CSIRO in 1996, will lead a team of 400 scientists looking for new scientific and engineering solutions. CSIRO will also set up an innovation fund for companies looking to exploit commercial activities based on science to help with development and marketing.
At the breakfast, participants can find out more about these programmes and about opportunities to collaborate with CSIRO in the future.
The event will also feature one of the Achievement Awards regular business excellence panels, and the opportunity for networking with other local entrepreneurs, so taking business cards along will make it easy to pass on details.
The breakfast will be held on Thursday, March 10 at the Rydges Hotel in Preston. Places must be booked in advance through the Business Awards website.
