Almost $1m in grants to aid worthy projects

A St. Patrick's family fun day near Abbotsford is among 110 grant recipients in the latest Annual Grants programme allocation for 2023, worth more than $965,000.

The funding is aimed at various programmes and projects delivered for the benefit of the local community by grassroots and not-for-profit organisations. Artists who undertake community-led activities can also benefit.

According to Mayor of Yarra Sophie Wade the initiative provides a responsive and flexible source of funds to help in the delivery of local initiatives. She added:

“This year’s recipients are doing incredible work for the Yarra community, and I look forward to seeing these diverse and important projects come to life.”


Cr Wade said the support targets areas where the need is at the highest with the latest 12 grant streams attracting 172 applications ranging from events and festivals to community housing. Grant recipients are able to use the funds for everything from updating necessary equipment to carrying out important Print marketing activities such as flyer printing campaigns to spread greater community awareness.

The range of projects to benefit from the latest grants including everything from free haircuts for the disadvantage and plant revegetation along Merri Creek to a creative space for First Nations young people and women. According to the Mayor, projects valued in excess of $4.5 million will be delivered as a result of Yarra City's investment of $1m.
