Salisbury South residents can participate in the South Australian Living Artists (SALA) festival, supported by their local council, the City of Salisbury, starting this August.
The SALA Festival is an opportunity for the City of Salisbury to support professional and emerging creatives living in the area. Their works will be exhibited at the Salisbury Community Hub, Parra Hills Community Hub and Mawson Community Centre. Business card printing is an effective marketing method that can be used by emerging artists to distribute their details to attendees at festivals like this.
The first SALA Festival was held in 1998 and was founded by the Director of Greenaway Art Gallery, Paul Greenaway, and Sam Hill-Smith. Initially, it was called SALA week, but the festival now runs for a month in more than 600 venues across South Australia, with more than 9,000 participating artists.
To further promote SALA, the organisers began art tours in 2002 to motivate office employees to check out art galleries during their lunch hour. The present-day festival offers a range of events and tours, which include tours on a bus to regional areas, as well as bilingual tours. To demonstrate its dedication to supporting emerging artists, the SALA Festival works with sponsors and partners to provide residencies and awards.
