World Environment Day Festival to return

The month-long World Environment Day (WED) Festival, which has been celebrated by residents of the Sunshine Coast since 1980, will take place next month, and residents of Maroochydore are invited to attend.

The WED Festival’s programme will consist of workshops, seminars, walks, interactive art, live entertainment and other activities. Support for the festival is provided by the Sunshine Coast Council’s grant programme, the Queensland Government and the Queensland Water and Land Carers. Banner printing is often used for events taking place over several days or weeks, as Banners are long-lasting and can be easily transported.

The festival is based upon the United Nations World Environment Day, which encourages awareness and action in order to protect and revive the environment. The objective is to stop ecosystem degradation and provide restoration in order to benefit people, combat changes in the climate and halt the fall of biodiversity.

Attendees will have over 45 events to choose from during the WED Festival. For instance, on June 26th, locals can get together at the Caloundra Spring into Scavenge event to clean up the area. Participants are asked to bring their own masks, gloves and Bags when attending the event at the Clarke Place Park.

Another outdoor event is the Guided Yandina Creek Wetland Trail Walk, which will take place on June 19th. During the walk, participants will learn about the significance of the land and about the species residing in the area.

The events will take place all over the Sunshine Coast and require registration, with celebrations kicking off on June 1st at 9am.
