Maroochydore to host cultural celebration

A multi-day event celebrating the rich cultural heritage of the Sunshine Coast’s First People is running Maroochydore this autumn and includes a wide range of entertainment and activities.

The Horizon Festival is celebrating its 10th anniversary in Maroochydore this year. Running over 10 days, the immersive event is back for 2026 and is dedicated to exploring where place, people and art meet while honouring the Kabi Kabi people and the ancestral lands of Jinibara Country.

Explaining the event and its symbolism, festival organisers described Horizon as a dividing line and a meeting point. It said that the festival provides people with a place to connect and be captivated by new music, performances, art and more that challenge their ideas and understanding.

Organisers of cultural events often work with banner printing services to create decorative signing bearing important symbols and motifs like the humpback whale which coastal Queensland’s Kabi Kabi identify with.

The 2026 edition of the festival includes a programme of more than 30 events. These will span the full breadth of First Nations culture and include community engagement, family-oriented activities, live music, performing arts and visual arts. Those joining the event can expect to discover the power of belonging and shared experiences while hearing from a diverse range of voices.

Horizon Festival will now take place in Maroochydore from Friday, May 1 to Sunday May 10.
