“Those businesses make a huge contribution to the economy. Yet there is little recognition and support for them."
Donna Hamer, from Mooloolaba, moved her work home about 18 months ago after having run a successful business for 11 years. Building on her knowledge as a legal assistant, trainer and conveyancing clerk, she is now booked to speak at a series of 13 sold out talks at the Sunshine Coast libraries about how to run a successful home business.
Danielle Royall-West, who has three children of school-age, said that working from home has given her flexibility. As a graphic artist, she established her company, dnd graphiks, about two years ago, and has found that she can still design digital Business Cards and other products while working from home.
Ms Hamer told the Sunshine Coast Daily that she decided to work from home so that she was able to spend more time with her 13 year old son. Ms Hamer said that many home based businesses struggle to be recognised as professional, but argues that just because the business is run at home does not make it second rate. She said:
"Believe me, a lot of them are very serious about their profession."
