New report shows visitor figures up for Sunshine Coast

Recently released figures for Sunshine Coast Airport have revealed more people have been heading to the area.

The latest figures show the number of passengers increased by nine per cent and seat capacity by ren per cent last year. Many international routes showed growth, with foreign visitors arriving from countries including New Zealand and the Pacific Islands. Visitor numbers from other Australian states were also on the up with the Sydney and Melbourne routes both increasing numbers.

The results are good news for tourist hotspots such as Mooloolaba where businesses can benefit from increased visitor numbers.

Sunshine Coast Destination Limited Chief Executive Officer, Simon Ambrose said the area was a popular holiday destination. He said:

“With increased awareness and promotion of the direct flights, the Sunshine Coast experienced a surge in visitation for the year ending September 2013 from New South Wales.

"This surge also was responsible for driving an increase of 8.2% of expenditure within the Sunshine Coast tourism region to total $1.9 billion”.

With such potential for increased revenue, restaurants, hotels, and other tourist related companies in Mooloolaba might like to think about targeting advertising towards visitors from out of the area. Flyer printing and poster printing are low cost ways of promoting a business or advertising a special deal such as discounted rates.

The airport is now hoping to continue its growth over the next three years with plans for more frequent flights on existing routes and the possibility of adding new routes or extending the season of international flights.
