Mooloolaba Spit Futures Plan becoming a reality

Upgrades to the Mooloolaba Spit Foreshore Park are on track, with new amenities sure to entice even more visitors to the area. The pedestrian pathway has been widened for duel passageway, along with the addition of strategically placed picnic areas, barbeques, and a handy beach shower. Objectives outlined in the 2009 plan also include landscape work, new gardens, bins, lighting, and seating.

According to Councillor Chris Thompson, both locals and visiting tourists will note the improvement in the park as a place of recreation.

The ambitious project, thus far undertaken in four stages, has been funded by council’s five-year Capital Works Program. Subsequent funding is needed for full delivery of the related Landscape Concept Plan that will ultimately provide safe access for pedestrians From Mooloolaba Beach to the wharf and Mooloolaba River.

The Mooloolaba Spit Forms a narrow peninsula between the ocean and river, close to the commercial centre of town. Population in the Shire is expected to double during the next two decades and, along with 700,000 visitors to Spit Beach annually, will increase the pressure on available public space. The balance between residential and tourism development is delicate, with identification of development issues reliant on an accurate situation analysis.

The Sunshine Coast is one of Australia’s key tourism destinations, and Mooloolaba is one of our most recognisable attractions. The continued improvements are recognition of the area’s importance in our region, both for locals and tourists. Local Print companies are sure to get behind the project through flyer printing, postcard printing, and other printing services.
