The Sunshine Coast will be host to a number of events for the International Readers’ and Writers’ Festival at Coolum, near Maroochydore.
Entertainment by musicians and storytellers can be found at the Civic Centre, where the festival will be opened, as well as Jack Morgan Park, the Bowls Club, the Surf Club, My Place Restaurant, and closing ceremony venue Tickle Park.
Themes of the festival will be around the strong history of the indigenous Gubbi Gubbi peoples, as well as tales of South Sea Islanders who were transported to Queensland in the latter half of the 19th Century to labour on the cotton and sugar plantations. Descendants of these original inhabitants and Islander pioneers will share their culture and stories.
The Gubbi Gubbi Dance Troupe will perform along with other entertainers. Local, national and international writers will come together to share their works and their ideas. Artists include author Janet DeNeefe, poet Antoine Cassar, indigenous author and poet Herb Wharton and indigenous comedian Sean Choolburra, along with many others. Handmade arts and crafts will be available for purchase, as will a range of food.
Banner printing, Business Cards, and Flyers are likely to be in use for the festival, which will be open to all ages and will be held during the September 9 to 11 weekend at Coolum Beach in Queensland.
