In the month of June 2011 a trip to the Sunshine Coast in Australia was given away every day for a week on the New Zealand radio station MORE FM. An employee of the radio station spent some time in the Sunshine Coast in order to promote her travel experiences to potential travelers from New Zealander. She did this through an online travel journal.
This initiative was part of an SDCL mission to New Zealand called the "Ray of Sunshine". This promotion was put together by the SDCL and various media outlets. Television and radio spots as well as brochure printing were some of the mediums used to target travel agents, wholesalers and potential holidaymakers.
The main goal of the campaign was to generate awareness in New Zealand about the Sunshine Coast as a holiday destination. Many New Zealanders often wind up visiting the Gold Coast when they travel to Australia. As this destination is so popular it is also very expensive. The Sunshine Coast offers similar beaches and attractions to visitors at a much lower cost. As this location is less popular than the Gold Coast visitors will find that they do not have to have to deal with large crowds.
Those who won free trips to the Sunshine Coast in June 2011 were given free return airfare and 7 nights of accommodation. The accommodation is located in popular areas of the coast such as Mooloolaba, Noose and Maroochydore.
