Drop-in sessions focus on airport expansion

Maroochydore’s Big Top Shopping Centre was one of three venues to host an information kiosk on the expansion project currently underway at the Sunshine Coast Airport.

The kiosks, which were also held at Noosa Civic and Peregian Springs Shopping Centres recently, were part of a series of activities held to provide information and gain feedback from the aviation industry and community on the works which are on target for completion in late 2020.

Jointly presented by Sunshine Coast Airport, Airservices Australia and the Sunshine Coast Council, the presentations also gave residents a look at the new runways, proposed flight paths and airspace.

According to a Council spokesperson, the latest information is only minimally different from the original Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) which, with the aid of printing services, was put before the community in 2014 and 2015.

Engagement with the local community is the last step in the process surrounding the airspace design, according to Cr Stephen Robinson, who said it provided a great opportunity for people to get a closer look in more detail at the way the airspace will be operating when the runway is finally completed and operational. Robinson added:

“There will be drop-in sessions and pop-up information stands for the community during the engagement period and the opportunity to provide feedback via Airservices Australia’s online portal.”

The six week engagement program, including information kiosks and drop-in sessions, will end on April 30.
