The master plan, approved last month by the Sunshine Coast Council will see the popular tourist attraction, set on 169 hectares, provided with a more sustainable future by leveraging its strong history and brand.
In addition to the focus being directed to the support of local producers, agribusiness and eco-tourism, the venue will also provide accommodation, educational facilities outdoors and entertainment opportunities.
Jenny McKay, Divisional Councillor, described the latest support for the project as a major milestone and said it would assist in boosting the area’s tourism industry. She predicted potential visitation could reach as much as one million annually and return the Big Pineapple to its heyday when it was at the top of Australia’s ‘most visited attractions’. Major attractions such as the Big Pineapple sell Promotional Products to offer visitors something to take away.
Councillor McKay said the $115m renewal project is definitely a welcome injection for tourism, adding:
“At the end of the day, our community is the real winner when we attract investment opportunities like this to our region.”
The project received approval after a capital grant had been secured by the Big Pineapple to refurbish structures and improve the experience of visitors last year. It is expected that the project will create 800 construction jobs and, when complete, employ 700 staff.Get a Free Quote for Promotional Products
