Social media conversation to come to Ultimo
Locals in Ultimo are invited to gather for a conversation on social media policy coming to the suburb in September. This new episode of Global Game Changers will focus on new government legislation raising the minimum age for use of social media to 16.
The panel will be hosted by prominent Australian journalist Kumi Taguchi. Panellists will include Australian eSafety Commissioner, Julie Inman Grant; Rana Ebrahimi, the National Manager of MYAN; Rosie Thomas OAM, the Executive Director and Co-founder of PROJECT ROCKIT; Dr Marian-Andrei Rizoiu, Associate Professor in Behavioural Science at UTS; and Amelia Johns, Digital and Social Media Associate Professor at UTS.
The conversation will unpack this new policy, exploring its implementation, how it may look in practice and associated challenges to privacy, enforcement and rights.
The discussion will also look at the implications on society, ethics and the digital world, with consideration of mental health, online personas, digital literacy and inclusion.
Attendees will explore the take-home question: how do we create a safer online world, without sacrificing things that make it empowering?
Brochure printing can help panel organisers promote events like this one, provide useful information and advertise in contemporary, attractive and interesting ways.
“Too Young To Scroll: Policy, Practice and the Bigger Picture” will be held on Thursday, 11 September. The venue will be The Great Hall, which can be found on Level 5 at UTS Building 1, 15 Broadway, Ultimo. The event will run from 6 PM to 7:30 PM. Attendance is free.
