Cheyenne workshop to explore baking with sourdough starters
There are a variety of ways for making bread rise, and one that utilizes a traditional method will be the focus of a Cheyenne hands-on class.
Cheyenne Botanic Gardens supplies the community with an assortment of programming throughout the year, much of which involves the STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) subjects. It has organized a class that will introduce learners to the science of sourdough bread, which uses a “starter” to make loaves rise.
Each attendee in the Bread and Butter Making class will discover the process of baking with sourdough, which is an ancient way of leavening bread. They will discover the process of creating, feeding and maintaining their “starter”, and they will also be taught a recipe that works with this ingredient. The function will be on offer in the venue’s volunteer kitchen, and the materials needed to prepare the dish will be supplied.
Tickets for this hands-on cookery class are available now. Their price is set at $25, and seats need to be reserved by those who are interested in advance. Recipe cards and other items for a culinary class will be available at an area printing services company.
This introduction to using sourdough starters to bake homemade bread, biscuits, and rolls will be held on Thursday, November 17. The start time for this in-person session has been scheduled for 7:30 pm.
