New Berlin school remodeled and revitalized

In New Berlin, a former school has been converted into a bustling community center. With more space for recreation programs and the neighborhood food pantry, the new community center located at Hickory Grove is now open.

The New Berlin Recreation Manager, Katie Roth, commented to say:

"It houses the New Berlin food pantry, recreation classes- so we have summer day camp all the way up to seniors. And our senior citizen club is here as well."

The city has preserved the structure's original cornerstones from the building and they can be seen at the new facility's entrance. They were first placed in the 1900s. Printing services can help with commemorative signage.

The refurbishment has special meaning for Mayor Ament because it was where he went to kindergarten. The original community center had significant infrastructural issues such as leaks, which are addressed in the change.

Residents are thrilled with the expansion of the New Berlin Food Pantry, which takes up twice as much room as it did before. The city leases the premises to the nonprofit group.

Operations have already changed significantly as a result of the extra storage capacity. Since the pantry is run entirely by volunteers, with many of them being seniors, the remodeled facility includes an enclosed drive-through lane that allows workers to load provisions without being exposed to inclement weather.
