New Berlin invests in pickleball courts

In Lions Park, New Berlin intends to raze the Community Center and install pickleball courts in its place.

At a recent meeting, the Common Council discussed whether to approve the hiring of RaSmith as the design contractor to work on Lions Park, and has agreed to use the company as a contractor. The project will cost $60,000.

The idea for the design includes 12 additional pickleball courts at Lions Park, along with related site enhancements as per the meeting papers. These installations will take the place of the existing facility when the Community Center is removed in the fall of 2025. The design will need to include such elements as site amenities, fences, shade structures, windscreens, lighting, and landscaping/site work. Professional graphic design services are typically used for visualization at this stage of a project.

In order to gather data, the firm will conduct a field study of the park and create a preliminary design, which must be finished by August and submitted to the Plan Commission by October.

The additional outdoor courts would supplement the city's current pickleball options at the Orthopaedic Associates of Wisconsin Indoor Sports Complex and the New Berlin Activity & Recreation Center, as the sport continues to grow in popularity in this part of Wisconsin.

The new pickleball courts will complement the park's baseball diamond, playground, basketball, volleyball, tennis, and soccer grounds.
