Volunteers from Wisconsin Education Innovations (WEI) are hosting a screening of The Truth About Reading next month.
This documentary discusses the importance of early literacy in America, while also reviewing the major challenges literacy faces across the country.
The documentary features a variety of experts discussing their challenges with literacy in the country. Attendees from the New Berlin area are invited to view the screening.
The film uses the stories of two men – David Chalk and John Corcoran – both of whom did not learn to read until they were adults. Using their stories, the documentary is meant to provide viewers with a sense of urgency about the importance of reading and how individuals can positively contribute to the literacy problem in society.
Upon the conclusion of the documentary, volunteers from Wisconsin Education Innovations will host a discussion on its importance and its lessons. They will also be on hand to alert attendees to the various other offerings the WEI has in the educational field. Attendees will be able to watch the documentary, ask questions, and pick up Promotional Products for the WEI.
The event is being held at the New Berlin Public Library, 15015 W. Library Lane, New Berlin. It takes place on Tuesday, March 19, and will run from 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm. Tickets are free, but advanced registration is requested via the event website.
