Menomonee student excels on ACT
Amma Otchere , a 14-year-old Menomonee Falls High School student, thought she did poorly on her recent ACT test. In fact, she scored 34 out of a possible 36.
Otchere had the third highest compound score and second highest reading score of 15,000 students spanning seven grades taking the exam. Her mother commented that Amma always loved reading and continuously displayed academic talent. She encouraged her daughter to gain knowledge whenever she could.
The Northwestern University's Academic Talent Search gave Amma the ACT. Using such tests on students deemed to be gifted, the program demonstrates the best plan for a student's education.
The results highlight students who surpass the curriculum within the area, according to Menomonee Falls High curriculum support specialist Sue Lee. She added that the district wants to use its educational resources more efficiently to better serve its students.
Amma plans to attend Harvard to study medicine for a career in neurosurgery. Eventually, she wants to be surgeon general. This year, she is in pre-calculus and takes several classes online outside of the high school curriculum.
If her family or the school want to congratulate her on the high ACT scores, they can have banners printed for her to display at home or in the halls of the school. It could also be used as decoration for a celebration with family and friends.
